Manchester United Prepare for Mason Mount Exit as Amad Diallo Stays
Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is beginning to take shape – and it may yet claim a high‑profile casualty.
With a deal already in place for Atalanta’s Ederson Silva and another midfielder, Matheus Fernandes, still firmly on the radar despite competition from Tottenham Hotspur, United are under pressure to sell before they buy again. One name has now been pushed towards the front of the exit queue: Mason Mount.
Mount offered to Milan as Amorim gives green light
Mount arrived from Chelsea as a headline signing but has never truly settled at Old Trafford. A stop-start first season, disrupted by injuries, has left him sliding down Michael Carrick’s pecking order and vulnerable at a time when United need to raise funds.
According to Milan Press, United have actively proposed Mount to AC Milan, putting a price tag of around €25 million (£21.5m) on the 25-year-old. The report claims Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has already given his approval to explore the move, with an “exchange of information” underway between the clubs.
The potential reunion adds intrigue. Amorim previously worked with Mount at Old Trafford and, by Milan Press’ account, believes he can be a key part of his planned overhaul at San Siro. This is not a tentative enquiry; this is a manager signalling he is ready to build with players he trusts.
For United, the logic is cold but clear. They had initially hoped to cash in on Manuel Ugarte, only for a serious knee injury at the World Cup to derail that plan. With Ugarte no longer a realistic sale, attention has turned to Mount, whose injuries and form have left him on the fringes at exactly the wrong moment.
If Milan decide to move from interest to formal bid, the numbers are already on the table.
Diallo stays: Carrick closes door on Milan approach
While Mount’s future hangs in the balance, another United attacker has been ring‑fenced.
Amad Diallo, one of the standout performers under Amorim during his time in charge at Old Trafford, has also been linked with Milan. Italian reports have floated the idea of a move to Serie A, hinting that the Ivorian could follow Mount to San Siro.
That prospect has been shut down in no uncertain terms.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano made United’s stance plain: Amad Diallo is not for sale this summer. Romano reported that Carrick has communicated his decision directly to the club hierarchy, and United “fully expect” Diallo to remain part of their plans for the new season.
The message is blunt. Speculation will continue, stories will surface, but inside Old Trafford the line is drawn. Mount can go at the right price. Diallo cannot.
For Milan, that clarity forces a change of angle. The door marked “Diallo” is closed. The one marked “Mount” has been left invitingly ajar.
