Ibrahim Mbaye's Potential Departure from PSG: Premier League Interest Grows
Paris Saint-Germain are braced for a fight over Ibrahim Mbaye – and this time, they might be the ones stepping aside.
The French champions are prepared to let the highly rated 18-year-old leave this summer, with a queue of Premier League clubs already forming for one of the most eye-catching young forwards to emerge from Ligue 1 in the past year.
From academy prospect to World Cup stage
Last season was Mbaye’s real arrival. Luis Enrique trusted him often enough for the teenager to start 10 Ligue 1 matches and rack up 31 appearances in all competitions, a significant return for a youngster breaking into a squad loaded with attacking stars at the Parc des Princes.
His rise didn’t stop at club level. Mbaye carried that momentum onto the international stage with Senegal at the World Cup, where he scored against France in the group phase and featured four times across the tournament. On the biggest stage, against the reigning world champions, he showed he belonged.
Pace, direct running, technical sharpness – the raw materials are all there. Just as importantly, he can operate anywhere across the front line, a modern forward in every sense.
PSG’s dilemma
And yet, this is PSG. For every emerging talent, there is a wall of established names blocking the path to regular starts.
Inside the club, there is no doubt about Mbaye’s long-term potential. He is regarded as one of the standout products of their academy in recent years. But there is also a clear-eyed recognition of reality: competition for attacking places is unforgiving, and minutes at this stage of his development matter more than reputation.
Club officials accept they may not be able to offer the consistent first-team football Mbaye now craves. That has opened the door. PSG are willing to listen to offers, not to push him out, but to find a solution that works for player and club. Any agreement is expected to protect their interests with a sell-on clause attached.
The message to Europe’s elite is simple: he’s available, for the right proposal.
Premier League clubs circle
That signal has been heard loud and clear in England.
Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton, Everton, Leeds United and Bournemouth have all held talks over Mbaye’s situation after being informed he could move this summer. Bournemouth were among the first to be sounded out, while Villa and Newcastle have tracked him for some time and see him as a long-term attacking asset.
Six clubs. One teenager. And a market that knows how rarely this kind of profile becomes available.
The attraction is obvious. Mbaye offers versatility across the front three, can stretch defences with his speed, and has already shown the temperament to handle high-pressure occasions. For recruitment teams, he ticks boxes both on the pitch and on the balance sheet.
A young star ready to move
For Mbaye himself, the equation is straightforward. Next season must bring regular senior football.
Despite his attachment to PSG and the progress he has made under Luis Enrique, he is now ready to seriously consider a move away from the French champions. A switch to England appeals, with the intensity and visibility of the Premier League a powerful draw, though there is also interest from Germany, Italy and Spain.
Wherever he goes, the priority is the same: minutes, responsibility, growth.
PSG know what they are letting go. The clubs chasing him believe they know what they might be getting. The only question now is who turns admiration into a concrete bid first – and whether they move quickly enough before one of Europe’s brightest young forwards slips through their fingers.
