Herve Renard Confirms Exit Date After Tunisia’s World Cup Exit

Herve Renard has never been a man for half-measures, and he is treating the Tunisia job like a hit-and-run mission.

The French coach has confirmed he will leave his role in charge of the Carthage Eagles after the 2026 World Cup, with no intention of hanging around once the tournament ends. His contract, he revealed, runs only until June and there are no talks on the table to extend it.

“I’ve come for a World Cup mission,” Renard told ESPN on Monday. “I have not signed beyond that.”

Tunisia turned to Renard in the aftermath of a humiliation. A 5-0 thrashing by Belgium forced a change, with Sabri Lamouchi making way as the federation looked for a hardened tournament specialist to steady the ship and restore pride.

The response has been harshly interrupted. On Saturday, Tunisia fell to Japan, a defeat that confirmed their elimination after just two matches. For a team that had hoped Renard’s pedigree would spark an immediate turnaround, the exit cuts deep.

The plan, though, has not shifted. Renard was hired for a single, clearly defined purpose: guide Tunisia through this World Cup cycle, then walk away. No long-term project. No open-ended rebuild. Just a mission with a finish line already marked on the calendar.

What happens to the Carthage Eagles once he goes is a question the federation can no longer afford to delay.
