Glody Makabi Lilepo's Instagram Posts Spark Speculation Among Kaizer Chiefs Fans
Glody Makabi Lilepo’s late-night Instagram activity was all it took to send Kaizer Chiefs fans into a spin.
On Sunday, the Congolese winger posted two cryptic stories on his account, each carrying a simple but loaded message: “leaving bye” and “bye bye”. One image showed goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, the other goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma. No explanation. No caption beyond the brief farewell.
For a fan base permanently on edge about departures and rebuilds, it looked like a goodbye.
Farewell posts, but no exit on the cards
The speculation spread quickly: was Lilepo about to walk away from Naturena just 18 months after arriving as a headline January 2025 signing under then-coach Nasreddine Nabi?
All signs from inside the club say no.
Lilepo remains firmly under contract at Chiefs. He signed a two-and-a-half-year deal in 2025 that runs to June 2027, with an option that could stretch his stay to June 2028 if the club triggers it. Chiefs still hold all the cards on his immediate future, and there is no indication they are ready to cash in.
According to club sources, Amakhosi are not listening to offers for the DR Congo international and, crucially, no concrete bids have landed on the table anyway. The Instagram noise might have rattled supporters, but it has not shifted the club’s stance.
From first signing to central figure
The reaction from fans underlined how important Lilepo has become in a short space of time.
Brought in as Nabi’s first signing of the January 2025 window, the former Al Hilal winger has grown into one of the most influential figures in a reshaped Chiefs attack. He has provided edge, direct running, and goals at a time when the Soweto giants were desperate for a new attacking identity.
The numbers back it up. Since his arrival at Naturena, Lilepo has scored 15 goals, added five assists, and featured in 56 matches across competitions. Those contributions have not been empty stats either; they have come in a period when Chiefs have finally started to claw their way back towards the sharp end of South African football.
He was part of the Amakhosi side that ended the club’s painful 10-year trophy drought by lifting the 2025 Nedbank Cup, beating their arch-rivals in a cathartic final that felt like a turning point. Lilepo’s presence in that run only deepened the sense that he is central to what Chiefs are trying to build.
Driving a revival
This season, his influence stretched into the league campaign as well. Chiefs finished third, their best showing in recent years, and Lilepo played a key role in that push.
Third place does more than tidy up the table. It drags Chiefs back into the MTN8 for the first time in two seasons and books a return to continental competition via the CAF Confederation Cup. For a club of their stature, those stages matter. Lilepo has helped put them back there.
That is why the idea of him slipping out of the back door via a disappearing Instagram story always felt out of step with the club’s broader project.
A story that vanished as quickly as it appeared
There is one more twist in this brief saga: the messages that sparked the rumours were posted as Instagram stories, the kind that vanish automatically after 24 hours.
No formal statement. No transfer request. Just two short phrases, a couple of familiar faces, and a fan base left refreshing their feeds.
For now, though, the reality is straightforward. Chiefs still control Glody Makabi Lilepo’s future, they are not preparing to sell, and the winger who helped end a decade-long wait for silverware remains a key piece of their rebuild.
The real question is not whether he is leaving, but how far he can help take Amakhosi while that contract still runs.
