Mason Greenwood's Future: Fenerbahce or AS Roma?

Mason Greenwood has turned his back on Saudi Arabia – but his time at Olympique de Marseille is still drawing to a close.

The 24-year-old forward, whose future has been a running subplot of OM’s summer, is expected to leave after two seasons at the club. Locally, the signs are already visible: according to La Provence, Greenwood has handed back the keys to his house in Aix, a symbolic full stop on his French chapter.

The lucrative pull of the Gulf has not been enough to change his mind. As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Greenwood has rejected significant offers from Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah, turning down the kind of contracts that have lured so many European-based players east in recent windows. The money was there. The will, clearly, was not.

Instead, his next move looks set to keep him in the European spotlight.

French outlet L’Équipe report that Greenwood has reached an agreement on personal terms with Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants want him, the player is on board, and the framework of a deal with his camp is in place. One major obstacle remains: Fenerbahce still have to satisfy Marseille.

That is no small detail. OM value Greenwood at around €50m, a figure that sets the tone for any negotiation and explains why interest has not yet translated into a completed transfer. For now, Fenerbahce are on the front row, but not across the line.

They are not alone.

AS Roma have also entered the conversation. The Italian club are tracking the situation and, crucially, Greenwood is understood to be keen on a move to the capital. Roma offers a different kind of project, a different kind of pressure, and the appeal of Serie A at a club with European ambitions.

Yet Roma face the same hard reality as Fenerbahce: no agreement with Marseille, no deal. OM hold the cards and, with a €50m valuation, are making it clear they will not be rushed or lowballed into a cut‑price exit.

So Greenwood stands at a crossroads. Saudi riches turned down. A life in Provence already boxed up. Personal terms agreed in Istanbul, interest alive in Rome, and a firm price tag set on the Vélodrome side of the table.

The next move will not be decided by desire alone, but by who is willing – and able – to meet Marseille’s demands.
