Deniz Undav Extends Contract with VfB Stuttgart Until 2029
VfB Stuttgart have locked in one of the Bundesliga’s deadliest forwards for the long haul. Deniz Undav has signed a new contract running until 2029, with an option for a further year, cementing his status as the spearhead of Sebastian Hoeneß’s ambitious side.
For Stuttgart, this is not just a renewal. It is a statement.
Since arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion on an initial loan in the summer of 2023, Undav has transformed from an intriguing addition into the face of their resurgence. His numbers tell one story: 46 goals and 18 assists in 86 Bundesliga appearances. The way he has carried Stuttgart’s attack tells another.
He has become the reference point, the man everything seems to orbit when VfB pour forward.
The bond between player and club runs far deeper than the penalty area. Undav spoke with the conviction of someone who has found his place.
"I'm over the moon to be continuing my career in Stuttgart," he said. “This contract extension means so much to me. The club and the city have become my second home over the past three years – right from day one, everyone welcomed me and my family with open arms and a lot of love. I'm really looking forward to spending many more years as part of the VfB family and enjoying lots more success."
That “second home” line is no throwaway remark. It fits the arc of a player who arrived needing a platform and found a club ready to build around him. The goals followed, then the responsibility, then the silverware chase.
Inside the club, there is no doubt about his importance. Fabian Wohlgemuth, board member for sport, did not bother to downplay it.
"Signing Deniz for another three years is an absolute winner, both for us as a club and for Deniz himself," he said. "In his time in Stuttgart, Deniz has become a Germany international with a World Cup around the corner. VfB finishing runners-up in the league, winning the DFB Cup and just recently qualifying for the Champions League once again has a lot to do with him as well."
That list of achievements underlines why Stuttgart moved decisively. Runners-up in the Bundesliga. The DFB Cup in the trophy cabinet. Champions League football back on the schedule. Each milestone has Undav’s fingerprints all over it, from ruthless finishes to the kind of link-up play that drags team-mates into scoring positions.
The timing of the extension could hardly be sharper. Undav has forced his way into Julian Nagelsmann’s plans and has been named in Germany’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the USA. His rise from club talisman to international forward is complete; now comes the test of whether he can carry his club form onto the biggest stage.
For Stuttgart, the equation is clear. A striker in his prime, tied down through 2029 with the option of 2030, leading a team back among Europe’s elite.
For Undav, the next chapter starts now: Champions League nights in Stuttgart, a World Cup on the horizon, and a contract that says, unmistakably, that this is his team.
