Bradley Barcola's Uncertain Future Amid Premier League Interest

Bradley Barcola is lighting up a World Cup group stage, yet his club future has rarely looked more uncertain.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger, fresh from scoring in France’s opening Group I win over Senegal, sits at the centre of a brewing tug-of-war between Liverpool and Arsenal, with PSG struggling to lock him down to a new deal.

A rising star stuck behind another

Barcola’s rise has been rapid. Thirteen goals and seven assists across 49 appearances last season, a central role in PSG defending both their Champions League crown and the Ligue 1 title, and a place in Didier Deschamps’ 26-man squad. At 23, he already looks like one of the most dangerous wide players in France.

Inside PSG, they see the same thing. They rate him as a future world-class winger.

But there is a problem. For the biggest nights, Luis Enrique turns first to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Barcola, for all his impact, is the one waiting for the call. That pecking order has opened the door to doubt, and potentially to England.

Contract talks at a standstill

PSG have responded in the most predictable modern way: a price tag. €100m (£86m) is the figure they have attached to Barcola’s name as Liverpool and Arsenal circle.

What they have not managed is progress on a new contract.

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, made it clear that talks between PSG and Barcola have ground to a halt. Negotiations, he said, are “completely, completely on standby”. No movement, no breakthrough, no agreement in sight.

That stalemate has turned Barcola’s situation into one of the defining storylines of this summer window. PSG insist nothing is imminent. The market, and the player’s suitors, sense opportunity.

Liverpool and Arsenal move into position

Both Liverpool and Arsenal have placed Barcola firmly on their attacking shortlists. Romano described him as “for sure” on Arsenal’s list of wingers, and confirmed that Liverpool also have him under serious consideration.

Liverpool’s interest is not new. According to Romano, the club had Barcola on their shortlist in 2025 and never took him off it. Internally, he says, they are talking about him “every single week”. They appreciate his profile, they “love” the player, and they see him as a genuine option for this summer.

Reports in France add another layer: Barcola is said to be “thrilled” by the idea of moving to Anfield.

Arsenal, though, are not standing back. They have reportedly prepared an opening bid of around €80m (£69m), testing PSG’s resolve and the limits of that €100m valuation.

Diomande complications push Barcola up the list

At Liverpool, Barcola’s name has climbed higher because their primary wide target, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, is proving stubbornly difficult to prise away.

Liverpool have already gone big for Diomande, sending an offer of €100m to Leipzig. The response was brutal: pay €148m (£128m) or look elsewhere. That stance, underlined by German reporting, has left Liverpool wary that the deal could collapse.

So they hedge. Romano revealed that Liverpool are “maintaining contacts for Diomande AND for Barcola”. For Diomande, there is an official bid, talks with Leipzig, conversations with agents. For Barcola, it is more about internal conviction and strategic positioning, but the admiration is clear.

The club have already invested heavily in their attack, bringing in Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for €40m (£34.5m). Yet they want more. They want another wide player to reshape the front line.

Life after Salah

This is not just about depth.

Liverpool are searching for someone who can compete immediately with Cody Gakpo and, crucially, someone who can grow into Mohamed Salah’s successor. That is the scale of the role they are trying to fill.

Barcola fits that kind of brief: young, proven on the biggest stages, comfortable under pressure, and already delivering at Champions League level. A winger with end product who can be moulded over several seasons.

PSG know all of this. They know his value, both sporting and financial. They know that every goal he scores for France, every decisive moment in a major tournament, adds leverage to his side of the table.

Right now, though, the contract talks are frozen, the price is set, and two Premier League heavyweights are circling. If Diomande remains out of reach and Arsenal push their interest to the next level, PSG may soon discover just how much it costs to keep a restless star who no longer wants to wait his turn.
