Yan Diomande Turns Down Premier League Clubs for PSG

Yan Diomande has listened. Arsenal have called. Liverpool have pushed. Manchester City have checked back in.

The answer has not changed.

The highly coveted RB Leipzig winger remains locked on to Paris Saint-Germain, with all three Premier League giants told in the past week that his intention is still to move to the Parc des Princes.

PSG turn up the heat

The race is not officially over, but the shape of it is clear. PSG are driving hard to close a deal and, crucially, Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stepped in personally to handle negotiations with Red Bull as the European champions move to secure one of the headline transfers of the summer.

That direct involvement has mattered. Al-Khelaifi’s long-standing relationship with the Red Bull hierarchy has helped move talks along, and sources close to discussions believe an agreement is edging closer by the day.

Inside Leipzig, the mood has shifted. The Bundesliga side have already accepted that Diomande is nearing a move to Paris, having explored an alternative route earlier this month: sell now, loan back for another season, keep him in Germany a little longer.

Luis Enrique shut that door.

The PSG head coach has been clear in internal talks that he wants Diomande immediately, integrated into his squad this summer rather than delayed for a year. PSG have backed that stance and are prepared to pay around €110million (£93.5m, $126m) to get the deal done on those terms.

Premier League pressure – and rejection

That determination has not gone unchallenged. The past week has brought a renewed wave of Premier League interest, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all making contact in a late attempt to test Diomande’s resolve.

Liverpool have been the constant presence. Long-term admirers of the Ivorian, they have kept regular dialogue open with his representatives, hoping for any sign that PSG’s move might stall or that the player’s preference might soften. The brief has been simple: if anything goes wrong in Paris, they want to be first in line.

So far, nothing has changed.

Arsenal, stung by their failure to land Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, have also stepped up. The Gunners had tracked Diomande throughout the summer, but missing out on their primary attacking target prompted them to go back in more forcefully, making fresh enquiries over a potential deal.

Manchester City have joined them in circling. With Savinho expected to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur, City remain in the market for another wide attacker and have made it clear they would be ready to move quickly if Diomande gave any indication he might reconsider PSG.

Each time, the message has been identical: the player’s focus is firmly on Paris.

No auction, no games

Despite the flurry of calls from England, Red Bull are not playing the market. Sources insist Leipzig are not using Premier League interest to drive up the fee, with negotiations with PSG running on their own track and independent of approaches from Arsenal, Liverpool and City.

That clarity has helped. PSG know the price, Leipzig know the destination Diomande wants, and the Premier League clubs know they are, for now, on the outside looking in.

Both PSG and Leipzig are also across a late complication in the background: Diomande’s recent change of representation. Discussions are ongoing over elements of his image rights following the switch in agents, and those talks still need to be resolved.

Nobody involved expects that to derail the move. The sense from all sides is that these are details, not deal-breakers.

Paris or bust

Negotiations are now moving into their final stretch. PSG are determined to land one of the biggest transfers of the window, Diomande is pushing towards the French capital, and Leipzig are braced for life without one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have all tried to change his mind.

Unless something dramatic breaks in the coming days, they look destined to watch him light up Paris instead.
