Manchester United Targets Karl Darlow and Andrey Santos

Manchester United are closing in on a double deal that could reshape the spine of their squad before pre-season has properly settled.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club are finalising terms for goalkeeper Karl Darlow and midfielder Andrey Santos, while long-term target Ederson is understood to be entering the final stages of his medical. If all three moves land, United could have a trio of fresh faces through the door within days.

Darlow’s switch is the one that will sting most for his current club. The 33-year-old is on the verge of crossing the Pennines from Leeds to Old Trafford after turning down a new contract, a move that will do little to cool an already fierce rivalry. For United, it offers experienced cover and competition in goal; for Leeds, it is a straight shot to the pride.

The Ederson pursuit has dragged across the summer, but United have stayed on it. Now, with the medical process nearing completion, they are edging towards the midfield upgrade they have been chasing. Alongside that, Andrey Santos, highly rated and still at the beginning of his European journey, is being lined up to add energy and depth in the middle of the pitch.

All of this drops into a market where goalkeepers are already spinning on a carousel.

Everton are weighing up a move for Sam Johnstone, according to the Mail. The former Manchester United academy product has made 27 appearances for Wolves since arriving two years ago, but relegation has changed the landscape. A drop to the Championship often forces decisions; in Johnstone’s case, it could mean a cut-price route back to the Premier League.

Everton, though, are biding their time. They want clarity on their own situation before pushing ahead, not least because Mark Travers, currently their second-choice keeper, is attracting interest. Wrexham and newly-promoted Coventry City are both said to be circling, sensing an opportunity to prise a proven shot-stopper away from Goodison Park.

If Travers moves, the dominoes start to fall. Everton would have a vacancy, Johnstone would have a clear path, and Wolves might find themselves dragged into the same merry-go-round that is already gripping half the division.

Higher up the table, Newcastle United are planning for a future that may not include their midfield heartbeat.

Reports from Brazilian outlet Band Sports suggest the club have identified Danilo Santos of Botafogo as a priority target if Bruno Guimaraes departs. One Selecao international out, one in. That is the idea at St James’ Park.

Danilo, 25, returned to Brazil after his spell with Nottingham Forest and has since carved out a reputation as one of the standout midfielders in the Brazilian top flight. Newcastle see a versatile operator who can plug multiple gaps, a player capable of easing the blow if Bruno’s time on Tyneside comes to an end.

And the pressure around Guimaraes is rising.

L’Equipe, via the Standard, report that the 28-year-old has already agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with Arsenal. The Gunners are expected to test Newcastle’s resolve with a first official bid, sensing an opportunity to land one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders.

Newcastle’s stance is firm. They insist their captain is not for sale and point to the two years remaining on his contract as a shield. But when a player is said to have given the green light to a move, the battle becomes as much about will as it is about numbers.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking to exploit any gaps opening up around them.

TEAMtalk claim the club are readying a bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, who is being viewed as one of the alternatives to Yan Diomande. Brighton, as ever, are driving a hard bargain. The Seagulls are said to want £80 million for the attacker, a figure that underlines both his talent and the inflationary pull of the Premier League’s elite.

There is another twist. With Manchester United linked to Crysencio Summerville, a move that could reshape the winger market, Liverpool sense a potential lane clearing for Minteh. If United go one way, Jürgen Klopp’s side may have a cleaner run at a player they believe can add a fresh edge to their forward line.

From Old Trafford to Anfield, from St James’ Park to Goodison, the same theme runs through every deal and every whisper: clubs are not just buying players, they are buying time, identity, and a foothold in a league that never stops moving. The question now is who blinks first in a market where one transfer can redraw the entire map.
