Manchester United Pursues 45-Goal Teen Sensation Blake Henry

Manchester United’s academy rebuild is gathering pace – and the next piece of the puzzle could be a 14-year-old who has spent the past year bullying defences well above his age group.

United are in talks to sign Blake Henry, the Derby County striker who hit a remarkable 45 goals in all competitions last season and has already broken into England’s Under-15 set-up. At 14, he is still years from the senior game, but his numbers and rapid rise have put him on the radar of the country’s biggest clubs.

Derby, who have helped shape his development, now look likely to lose him. Henry featured in the U18 Premier League this season, becoming one of the youngest players to appear in the competition just weeks after turning 14. He only played 24 minutes across a couple of games at that level, but his impact across the age groups was devastating, his goal return marking him out as one of the most prolific young forwards in the country.

That kind of output does not go unnoticed. Manchester City have also tracked his progress, yet United are understood to be leading the chase as they push aggressively to refresh and upgrade their academy talent pool this summer.

If Henry does make the move to Old Trafford, Derby will be entitled to compensation. The fee will not be plucked from thin air. It is calculated on a strict framework: his age, how long he has been in Derby’s academy, the category status of the club signing him, and the documented costs of his training and development.

Ideally, the two clubs will settle on a figure between themselves. If they cannot, the case will go before a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal, which will set the amount and close the matter.

For United, this is part of a broader strategy. Club staff have been scouring rival academies throughout the summer, assessing a range of prospects as they look to restock the pipeline with players who can eventually challenge for first-team places.

Henry, with 45 goals already behind him and a reputation growing just as fast, fits that brief. Now the question is whether United can finish the job and bring one of the country’s most talked-about young strikers into their system.
