Jeremy Monga Chooses Arsenal Over Chelsea and Manchester United
Jeremy Monga has made up his mind.
The highly rated Leicester City winger, just 16 years old, has chosen Arsenal as his preferred destination ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United, sharpening the focus on one of the most closely watched youth pursuits of the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have moved to the front of the queue and are now pushing hard to close a deal for the teenager, with the player indicating he is ready to agree a move to the Premier League champions. When a prospect with options at three of England’s biggest clubs leans clearly in one direction, people sit up.
For Leicester, the timing could hardly be worse.
Relegation has already hit the Foxes hard, and now they face the prospect of losing one of the brightest talents in their system just as they try to reset outside the Premier League spotlight.
Monga had already committed his future on paper. He agreed a professional contract with Leicester that is due to start when he turns 17 on July 10, a deal that crucially allows the club to command a transfer fee rather than lose him for a minimal sum. That agreement gives Leicester some leverage, but it doesn’t change the direction of travel.
Arsenal’s move underlines a clear strategy: secure elite youth early, even when the first-team squad is stacked with attacking options. Beating Chelsea and Manchester United to a teenage winger from a club in flux is exactly the kind of marginal gain top sides now chase relentlessly.
Leicester, meanwhile, must decide how hard to fight to keep a player whose eyes are already on the champions.
