Dominik Szoboszlai Commits to Liverpool Until 2031

Dominik Szoboszlai has tied his future to Liverpool, signing a new five-year contract that keeps him at Anfield until 2031 and plants him firmly at the heart of the club’s next era.

The 25-year-old arrived from RB Leipzig for £60m in 2023. One season later, he is no longer just a big signing. He is the player Liverpool are building around.

Last term he was the standout performer in a side undergoing transition, finishing with 13 goals and 12 assists. Numbers that would be impressive for a forward. From midfield, they underline why the club moved quickly once negotiations with his camp and sporting director Richard Hughes began to gather pace in recent weeks.

Those talks had rumbled on for months. Speculation followed, as it always does when a player of his profile has only two years left on his deal. That noise is over now. The agreement was finalised and signed this week, with both Liverpool and Szoboszlai convinced his best years are still to come.

He certainly sounds like a player in no mood to stand still.

"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," he said. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can."

That mindset fits neatly with the role he is growing into. Szoboszlai already wears the armband for Hungary; at Liverpool, he is edging towards similar responsibility. With Andy Robertson leaving Anfield this summer, the vice-captaincy is vacant. Now that his future is settled, the midfielder will be a serious contender to step into that position in the dressing room hierarchy.

His ambitions stretch far beyond a leadership title.

"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same," he said. "I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."

This is not empty rhetoric. In February, Mohamed Salah – who has since departed the club – called Szoboszlai "one of the best players in the world". Praise of that kind from a player of Salah’s stature carries weight inside a top-level dressing room. It also underlines why Liverpool were determined to remove any doubt over Szoboszlai’s long-term status.

The new contract is more than a routine extension. It is a statement of intent from a club reshaping itself after the exits of major figures and from a player who clearly sees Anfield as the stage for his prime years.

Liverpool have secured their midfield talisman. Now comes the real question: can Szoboszlai turn that faith into the trophies he so openly craves?
