Newcastle's Quick Move for Toure After Tonali Transfer

Newcastle United are wasting no time replacing Anthony Gordon. With Sandro Tonali’s £100m move to Tottenham all but banked, the club have moved decisively for Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure in a deal worth €50m (£42.8m), according to The Telegraph.

A long-term contract is in place and Toure is expected to undergo a medical this week. Newcastle, bruised by Gordon’s departure but flush with funds, have chosen a like-for-like response: pace, directness and upside out wide rather than a slow rebuild.

United’s midfield rebuild: Tchouameni, Scott and a moving target

At Old Trafford, the puzzle is more complicated. Manchester United missed out on Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham, but their midfield shortlist remains crowded and ambitious, with Aurelien Tchouameni still the headline act.

The Daily Mail reports that Alex Scott, Tyler Adams and Felix Nmecha sit alongside Tchouameni on United’s radar. Scott, in particular, has surged to the top of the list, with senior figures at the club described as strong admirers of the Bournemouth midfielder.

That admiration comes at a cost. Arsenal are also tracking the 22-year-old, and his price is climbing. The original £60m valuation has swelled in the wake of big-money moves for Fernandes, Tonali and Elliot Anderson, with selling clubs now emboldened by a market that has lost all sense of restraint.

Camavinga twist threatens Tchouameni pursuit

United’s hopes of landing Tchouameni could yet be wrecked by a development elsewhere. Eduardo Camavinga has become the subject of direct talks between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the last few hours, according to MARCA, with City “evaluating the possibility of incorporating” the 23-year-old into Enzo Maresca’s squad.

City want another midfielder after agreeing a deal for Anderson, and Camavinga fits their profile: young, press-resistant, and already hardened by elite competition. He wants to stay in Madrid and prove his worth, but if he changes his stance and heads to the Premier League, the dominoes fall in a different direction.

Real Madrid would be far less likely to sanction Tchouameni’s exit as well. For United, that could mean watching their top target vanish the moment City make their move.

Barcola in demand as Arsenal and Liverpool circle

On the wings, another tug-of-war is forming. Bradley Barcola is wanted by Arsenal and Liverpool, while Paris Saint-Germain are also keen to keep him despite their own plans to bring in more attacking options.

Liverpool have turned to Barcola after Yan Diomande chose PSG as his preferred destination if he leaves RB Leipzig this summer. With Ivory Coast now out of the World Cup, Diomande’s future should crystallise quickly, and that decision has pushed Liverpool to accelerate their interest in the Frenchman.

Arsenal, for their part, view Barcola as an alternative to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Barcola’s timing has been impeccable: he underlined his quality earlier this week with a superb goal for France against Sweden, a reminder to every sporting director watching that his ceiling remains high.

Chelsea hit a wall in Chavarria chase

Chelsea’s recruitment drive has hit resistance in Spain. An offer for Rayo Vallecano defender Pep Chavarria has been rejected, according to Spanish radio station El Partidazo de COPE, and the fallout could escalate.

Rayo president Martin Presa is not only refusing to negotiate; he is also considering reporting Chelsea to FIFA. Chavarria has a €50m (£42.3m) release clause, and Presa insists there have been no formal negotiations with the west London club. Chelsea, accustomed to forcing the issue in the market, may find this one harder to bend to their will.

Tottenham’s £223.5m week reshapes the market

No club has shaken the window quite like Tottenham this week. Two major arrivals and one marquee sale have created a £223.5m swing that is already reshaping rival plans.

Spurs first struck an £85m agreement with West Ham United for Mateus Fernandes, landing a midfielder who had long been on several elite shortlists. They then accepted a £50m package from Brighton for Luka Vuskovic, with £46m guaranteed and £4m in add-ons.

That outgoing proved crucial. It allowed Tottenham to match Newcastle’s £100m valuation for Sandro Tonali, structuring the deal at £92.5m guaranteed with a further £7.5m tied to Champions League bonuses.

In one burst, Spurs have raided a domestic rival, banked a huge fee from another, and prised away a key figure from Newcastle’s project. The money is moving fast. The question now is who blinks next.
