Arsenal Targets Konsa Amid Saliba Injury Concerns
Arsenal’s summer has taken a sharp turn. What looked like a window of refinement is starting to feel like a race against time.
William Saliba, the cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s defence, was forced off in France’s World Cup semi-final defeat after recent struggles with a back problem. The full extent of the injury is still being assessed, and it remains unclear whether the 25-year-old will need a spell on the sidelines. For a club built on defensive stability over the past two seasons, any doubt over Saliba sends alarm bells ringing.
Arsenal, predictably, are not waiting around.
Konsa back on the radar
Ezri Konsa has re-emerged as a serious option. The Guardian report that Arsenal have expressed an interest in the Aston Villa and England centre-back, with the London club exploring potential cover – and competition – for Saliba.
Konsa’s stock has risen sharply under Unai Emery. Composed on the ball, aggressive in duels, and comfortable in a high line, he fits the profile Arteta demands. Arsenal’s interest is not new, but Saliba’s situation has given it fresh urgency.
And it is not just Konsa they are circling at Villa Park.
Double Villa raid in the works
Arsenal are also expected to table an offer for Morgan Rogers, Konsa’s club and international team-mate. The 23-year-old attacker has long been on Arsenal’s radar, and with his World Cup involvement nearing its conclusion, the club are said to be preparing a formal bid.
Rogers offers versatility across the frontline, something Arteta values deeply. For a side that has occasionally lacked depth and unpredictability in the final third, his arrival would add another dimension.
While those moves are being lined up, one deal is already close to the finish line.
Tzolis deal nearing completion
Cristos Tzolis is on the verge of becoming an Arsenal player. The club have agreed a deal with Club Brugge for the winger, bringing another wide option into an attack that Arteta continues to reshape.
The Greek international’s arrival would increase competition in the wide areas and potentially free up other forwards to operate more centrally. Arsenal’s recruitment drive is not subtle: they want more goals, more variety, more threat.
But they are not the only heavyweight plotting big moves.
Barcelona push for Alvarez as Arsenal watch on
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has again underlined his desire to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, a player Arsenal are also keen on.
Alvarez, whose movement and finishing have made him one of Europe’s most coveted forwards, sits at the centre of a tug-of-war between clubs seeking that extra edge in attack. For Arsenal, any serious Barcelona push complicates an already challenging pursuit.
While the north London club juggle multiple targets, the rest of the Premier League is hardly standing still.
Villa reshape, Forest gamble, Newcastle reload
Aston Villa, who could yet find themselves fending off bids for Konsa and Rogers, are closing in on Joao Gomes from Wolves in a deal worth around £38m. The Brazilian midfielder would add bite and energy to Emery’s engine room, a statement of intent from a club refusing to stand still after breaking into the upper reaches of the table.
Villa have also agreed personal terms with AC Milan left-back Pervis Estupinan, according to Fabrizio Romano, as they move to strengthen their options on the left side of defence.
Nottingham Forest, fighting to establish themselves securely in the division, are ready to launch a £45m bid for Spurs midfielder Lucas Bergvall after seeing a previous offer rejected for the Sweden international, report BBC Sport. Forest still want another midfielder on top of Bergvall, a bold attempt to overhaul the heart of their team in one window.
Up north, Newcastle United are working on a different problem: goalkeepers. The Daily Mail report that the club are in talks over moves for Brighton’s Carl Rushworth and Manchester City’s James Trafford, as they look to reinforce a position that has come under scrutiny.
Back at Arsenal, though, everything loops back to one question: how serious is Saliba’s injury?
The answer to that may define not only their transfer window, but the direction of their season.
