Florentino Perez's €150m Bid for Vitinha: A Game Changer in Madrid Elections
Florentino Perez is closing in on election day the way he knows best: with the promise of a galáctico-style coup.
This time, the name at the centre of the storm is not a striker or a winger, but a midfielder who has quietly become one of the most influential players in Europe. Vitinha, the metronome of PSG’s engine room, has emerged as the headline act in Perez’s plan to tilt the Real Madrid presidential race decisively in his favour.
A €150m statement
According to Cadena SER, the Portuguese international has surged to the top of Perez’s wishlist as the president prepares to unveil a blockbuster signing ahead of Sunday’s vote. The figure being discussed is staggering even by Madrid’s standards: a €150 million bid, one of the largest outlays ever contemplated by the club.
Perez himself fuelled the speculation on Thursday evening. In an interview, he revealed that Madrid would soon announce a €150m offer for a star player, while explicitly ruling out Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Michael Olise. The process of elimination only sharpened the focus. Attention in Spain quickly turned to Vitinha.
Spanish journalist Pacojo Delgado went a step further, naming the PSG midfielder as the man Perez has in mind and framing his potential arrival as a decisive political blow.
“If Florentino wants to settle the elections, the announcement of Vitinha would be the final blow. A knockout without even reaching Sunday,” Delgado said, underlining just how much weight such a move would carry in the presidential battle.
Vitinha at the heart of a new Madrid
This is not just about spectacle. Inside the club, Vitinha is being spoken of as the cornerstone of a new project that is expected to be led from the dugout by Jose Mourinho. The midfielder is viewed as a player who can anchor and elevate a revamped midfield, a technical leader around whom Mourinho could build his second Madrid era.
Vitinha’s status at PSG makes any deal a complex operation. He is under contract for another three years and has grown into one of the French champions’ most important players. PSG are under no pressure to sell, and prising him away from the Parc des Princes would demand not only money but also leverage.
That is where another familiar figure enters the story.
Jorge Mendes in the spotlight
Jorge Mendes, the super-agent with deep ties to both Mourinho and Real Madrid, is seen as a crucial piece in the puzzle. His relationship network could prove decisive in opening a path between Madrid and PSG for Vitinha.
Delgado highlighted exactly that point, linking Mendes’ influence to Mourinho’s anticipated return.
“Do you really think Jorge Mendes will not make his best player available to Jose Mourinho if it is possible?” he asked, capturing the sense that this move, if it happens, would be about more than one signing. It would be about reuniting a Portuguese axis of power at the Bernabeu: president, coach, agent, and now potentially the midfield general.
A broader rebuild taking shape
Vitinha is only one part of a wider squad reshaping already in motion. Reports in Spain claim that Madrid have moved early to strengthen other areas, with Ibrahima Konate said to be set to arrive on a free transfer. On the flanks, Denzel Dumfries is expected to join after the club triggered his €20m release clause, adding athleticism and depth on the right side.
Those moves sketch out a clear pattern: a more physically imposing, tactically flexible Madrid built for Mourinho’s demands. Konate to bolster the back line, Dumfries to drive the right channel, and Vitinha to dictate the tempo in the middle.
Yet everything circles back to PSG. Any agreement for Vitinha will hinge on Madrid’s ability to persuade a club that still views him as a central figure in their project. The money is one thing; the negotiation is another.
As Sunday’s election looms, Perez appears ready to bet that the promise of a €150m midfield leader, backed by Mourinho and brokered by Mendes, is the kind of shockwave that can decide a presidency before a single ballot is cast.
Now the question is simple: will PSG open the door, or will this grand electoral gambit be left hanging in the air?
